Job Description:

Summary: Responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Maintenance department in accordance with policies and procedures, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facilities to assure that our facilities are maintained in a safe and comfortable manner. Work may involve a variety of physical demands.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):

  • Supervises the day-to-day maintenance operations for the department and is accountable for performance of maintenance activities on time, quality and cost efficiency.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for building maintenance and develops preventative maintenance schedules
  • Reports needs for major repairs to COO.
  • Responsible for ensuring up to date maintenance programs and operating procedures are in place to meet all of SWCHC needs and regulatory requirements (e.g. building codes, OSHA, Joint Commission, etc.)
  • Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants and other hazardous substances
  • Oversees and is responsible for daily courier service and distribution of mail to SWCHC sites.
  • Chairs Emergency Management Committee & Co-Chairs Safety Committee, prepares agenda and minutes, and prepares annual assessment plan, drills and appropriate documentation.
  • Relieves security guard when needs at Security Desk and in parking lot.
  • Manages a staff of non-exempt employees
  • Assists in checking health center for safety hazards for any deficiencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Must have valid CT driver’s license.
  • Must be able to use information systems technology for building maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge of physical plant management including exposure to building systems, HVAC, plumbing and/or electrical.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and lift up to 25 lbs.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree highly required, seven years’ experience in managing a facilities/maintenance outfit will be considered in lieu of degree. Seven years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and trades related experience preferably in a health care setting. At least three years’ experience of direct supervision of facilities/maintenance staff required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the working conditions are good with little or no exposure to extremes in health, safety hazards and/or hazardous materials. This person must have the ability to travel as required to work with staff.
